Is There Really A Migraine Cure? Possibly, Acupuncture Is Your Best Bet

Migraine headaches are very common types of vascular headaches and the condition is often characterized by extreme pain on either one side of the head, or on both sides along with upset stomach as well as, in some cases, disturbed vision.

There are two types of migraine-caused headaches and these are classic as also common, and they differ from one another in how neurological symptoms appear, and before a classic migraine attack, there may be ten to thirty minutes of symptoms from the common type.

The Drug Industry’s False Claims

When it comes down to finding migraine cure, the drug industry is making all-out efforts to convince the general public that there are indeed migraine cures, though what actually occurs is that the medications can only mask the symptoms rather than cure the migraine. In fact, taking temporary relief measures for migraine cure are not the best course of action since such drugs are anything but a permanent solution.

What’s more, when such drugs are taken over a prolonged period of time, they can lead to side-effects that can often turn very serious, and they do little besides providing temporary relief and are not in any way a migraine cure, since they do not attempt to find the basic cause of the pain.

The essential thing you need to realize is that when you suffer from migraine headaches, you must be aware that this is a signal from your body that something has gone horribly wrong in your body, and experiencing migraine headaches are not the problem; rather, they are symptoms of the problem. Thus, to find migraine cure, you need to find a means whereby you can fix your problem that is resulting in migraine headaches.

There no doubts those migraine headaches are affecting, it is believed, as many as fifteen percent of the population in the United Kingdom alone, and of these, there are supposedly as many as seventy-five percent women sufferers. One of the possible solutions with regard to migraine cure is trying out acupuncture that is a good alternative to taking drugs on which it is easy to become overly dependent and which also have side effects to contend with as well.

And, to get even more benefit from using acupuncture for migraine cure, you need to also make changes to your diet, and reducing your dependence on caffeine-oriented beverages and replacing that with more consumption of water will certainly be a step in the right direction. The acupuncture session may last for an hour and it may require gentle massaging of your head and also having acupuncture needles placed strategically on your head. Soon, enough you should start seeing lesser numbers of migraine headaches, and finally none at all, which only shows that acupuncture can indeed be a possible migraine cure.

The Many Types of Migraine Treatments

Migraine headaches are the most debilitating types of headaches known to medical science and because they are so incapacitating there have been many different types of migraine treatments developed over the years.

Migraine treatment is a very complicated subject and while it can be broken down into a couple of basic components the concept behind migraine treatment is extremely complicated. Whenever you deal with the brain and the elements around the brain you are always opening up a whole world of possibilities and everything needs to be taken into account for correct migraine treatment.

Always discuss migraine treatment with your doctor and your doctor will be sure to run a series of tests to see exactly what the cause may be. While it is still not possible to correctly diagnose the exact cause of a migraine headache, your doctor will look to see if there may be another medical reason that could potentially be causing your headaches.

Sometimes the proper migraine treatment has little to do with the headache itself and more to do with other medical conditions surrounding it.

Taking the Pain Away

Depending on the frequency of your migraine headaches, and the severity with which they attack, you may need a regular treatment schedule. But if your migraine headaches are not that frequent then your doctor may just prescribe some pain relieving medication to be taken when you feel the headache coming on.

Migraine headaches have their own line of pain relieving medication and if you do experience migraine headaches then do not attempt to prescribe your own migraine treatment with over the counter medications. Get to your doctor and discuss your options to find out what the best way would be to combat the crippling pain of a migraine headache.

Continuous Migraine Treatment

Some migraine sufferers experience multiple headaches in a month, or even a week, and to help these sufferers doctors will habitually put patients on a continuous migraine treatment schedule that involves some very strong pain relievers and other kinds of medicine.

Preventive care for migraine headaches can help reduce the amount of headaches but with the still unknown nature of what causes the migraine there is no guarantee that continuous treatment will eliminate the migraine headaches. Some people get migraine headaches that are so bad that they cannot function at all when one comes on. If the frequency of these headaches is more than a couple times a month then continuous treatment of some sort is needed to try and help the patient live a normal life.

Causes Of Ocular Migraine Remain Misunderstood

While most people associate migraines with severe and debilitating headaches, not all migraine activity is accompanied by pain.

Moreover, some visual symptoms of a migraine headache may be seen, without the accompanying pain and may be related to a ocular migraine affecting the visual response portion of the brain. It is believed that migraines are caused by a disturbance of blood flow to various parts of the brain, causing pain when blood vessels become dilated or closed, and ocular migraine sufferers may not realize they are suffering this type of migraine.

Visiting an eye doctor or ophthalmologist may not be able to reveal any type of treatment for an ocular migraine. Despite many doctors knowing what the symptoms are revealing, the treatment of such visual acuities remains a mystery, as do the causes. It is not different for those symptoms to be the same as those with migraine headaches, but there usually is no pain involved.

Those suffering from an ocular migraine usually experience a small blind spot that seems to grow larger or a circular zig-zag line that interferes with their vision. Lines may also appear in the field of vision without any associated pain. These ocular migraine episodes can last from a few minutes to a half hour, depending on the individual.

Vision Problems Should Always Be Verified

While most consider an ocular migraine to be harmless, a person experiencing some of the symptoms should be checked out by an eye doctor. Many of these symptoms can also be caused by other conditions such as a detached retina, which will require medical intervention.

Those suffering from an ocular migraine will need to be careful when they experience an attack, particularly if involved in an activity requiring sharp vision such as driving. The activity will need to stop immediately, until the ocular migraine episode subsides.

Treatment options are principally non-existent but if the episodes are frequent and spaced close together, a doctor or ophthalmologist may be able to prescribe drugs to reduce the frequency of ocular migraine attacks. Once a patient is prescribed drugs for this problem, it will usually be for an extended period.

Patients who are made aware that they are suffering from ocular migraine attacks will need to take specific action at the onset to avoid causing injury to themselves or to others. Remaining still until the episode passes is recommended and if they continue or additional vision problems become apparent, contacting a qualified eye doctor is strongly suggested.

An Introduction to Some Migraine Medication

A migraine headache is something your doctor will treat with migraine medication.

It may seem like an evident point but people should know that migraine medication is not something they should prescribe to themselves using over the counter medication.

A migraine headache is serious business and in order to treat it correctly you need the correct migraine medication. More often than not the migraine medication you get over the counter will not be doing the correct job in treating your migraine condition. Here are some migraine medications you may hear about when you talk to your doctor.

NSAIDs

NSAIDs are Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and they are used to treat the more moderate forms of migraine headaches. These migraine medications are prescribed to relieve patients that do not have recurring symptoms but definitely do experience the symptoms caused by a migraine headache.

These types of medications can cause a serious upset stomach as part of their side effects and for that reason many people like to avoid using them as much as possible. In some cases doctors will also prescribe ergotamines to counteract the nausea effect of the NSAIDs.

Combining to Treat Moderate Migraines

Because a lot of migraine medications are pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications they tend to have a lot of negative side effects for patients. For that reason many doctors will prescribe combinations of medications to try and help reduce the effects of the migraine while also avoiding the sour after effects of the medication.

In some cases doctors will prescribe aspirin with codeine and caffeine to help sooth the effects of the migraine. Combinations like this are not unusual but some of the elements used can be habit forming so doctors take great care in making sure they only prescribe the necessary dosages of migraine medication.

For More Serious Cases

If a patient experiences more severe and chronic migraine symptoms then a doctor may prescribe a medication called Sumatriptan or one called Dihydroergotamine. Both medications are considered to be the first resort of doctors faced with treating serious migraine conditions and are preferred over any other severe migraine treatment because of their lowered instance of side effect.

In very extreme cases the doctor may have to resort to Thorazine or Demerol which are both very powerful pain medications and also very habit forming. Great care needs to be taken before prescribing potentially habit forming drugs when you also consider that these drugs may wind being taken for a very long time by a chronic patient.

Figuring Out a Hulcenating Migraine?

A hulcenating migraine is what happens when you try and say that you want information about a hallucinating migraine but you wind up spelling it hulcenating migraine instead!

If we are to assume that the effects of the hulcenating migraine are the same as the actual hallucinating migraine; then these effects can be varied and do depend on each patient’s personal experience.

The incorrectly spelled hulcenating migraine is a condition, not unlike the hallucinating migraine, that causes the mind to play tricks on the patient and see things, and experience things, which may not be real.

Hulcenating migraines can be incapacitating and need to be attended to as soon as possible. Hulcenating migraine headaches are not common and usually anything that has the ability to cause hallucinating migraine needs to be treated immediately by your doctor.

If you have recurring hallucinating migraines then this may be the signs of something much more serious and you need to get treatment right away. Brain trauma, or a potentially damaging condition to the brain, can be the results of hallucinating migraines but also the results of a much more serious condition such as brain tumors and other brain ailments. The longer you let these conditions go untreated the more dangerous they become.

Very, Very Rare

Migraine headaches, if they are diagnosed properly, are not conditions of the brain. The brain does not feel pain and the brain does not react to pain in a way that would induce a migraine headache. If you are having what is being called hallucinating migraines then there is a chance that there maybe a chemical imbalance in your brain that needs immediate attention.

Through research, medical scientists have been able to theorize that migraine headaches can be the result of an imbalance in the blood stream and that causes the blood vessels around your skull to react and cause pain. But if you are having hallucinations due to headaches then this may not be the work of a migraine but rather some other very serious condition.

There is not a lot of information available about the possibility of getting a hallucinating migraine mostly because research on the migraine headache is ongoing and also we really know very little of how outside stimulus trumy affects the brain itself.

But if you are having migraines so bad that you may be seeing, hearing, or sensing things that are not there then you need to get treatment instantly. It is a very rare condition that medical science knows very little about and it needs to be studied at length before we can really get a handle on it.

Some Good Headache Remedies

My mom was never a health care professional but you know how moms can develop medical knowledge over time that no doctor can seem to get a handle on.
My mom once told me that the best headache remedies are the ones that eliminate the source of the headache - the next day my dad was packing and leaving the house.

But those sorts of headache remedies don’t always work for every occasion and the most effective headache remedies are the ones that seem so simple that they cannot possible work - but yet they do.

If you get headaches and you need quick headache remedies then trying anything once will not kill you, it may even help you. So lend an ear to some truly basic, yet strangely effective, headache remedies.

First and Foremost

If you experience frequent headaches, whether they are severe or not, get to your doctor right away. If you are experiencing two or more headaches a week then that could be the sign of bigger problems so do not engage in any traditional headache remedies and get to your doctor right away.

Many people ignore headaches as just a simple inconvenience but recurring headaches could be the sign of something more serious like the potential for brain tumors so do not let a persistent headache become a larger problem; get to your doctor immediately.

Also if you have migraine headaches regularly, these are very painful recurring headaches, then too get to your doctor immediately for prescribed treatment. These headache remedies are not going to help migraines. These headache remedies are more for tension headaches and stress headaches.

Shhh!

One of the reasons we get headaches is an overload of external stimulus otherwise known as too much stuff going on around us. Tension headaches can come about from too much stress in our lives causing our muscles to tense up. Stress headaches can come from continually worrying about things or staring at something for too long like a computer screen.

For this, one of the things you can do is get to a quiet room and just relax. Close out the world, maybe put a warm moist towel over your eyes, and just close the door. Of course if you are going to do this and then reintroduce yourself back into the stressful situation then expect more headaches. But now you know one way of getting rid of them.

Stop the Sugar

Sugar rushes are real and headaches from too much sugar are real as well. It may seem like the simplest thing in the world but if you have gotten into the routine of eating a lot of sugar during the day then that may be your source of headaches. Cut back on your sugar intake and see if that helps.

Constant Headaches Are Painful And Distracting

Constant headaches are painful, but these headaches can also be very troubled.

People with constant headaches find it hard to concentrate on their roles or take care of their responsibilities. A constant headache can make it difficult to care properly for other members of the family.

A painful headache can also make a person very irritable, and those around may not understand the cause. People who suffer from constant headaches often spend a great deal of time and energy trying to find out the cause of their problem. Once people do find a cause for their constant headaches they must find a way to relieve the pain.

People with constant headaches often spend a good deal of their time trying to find relief. There are many tests that can be used to determine the cause of constant headaches. Each person who suffers from headaches should work with their physician to find the source of the headaches and the proper medication to relieve the pain.

Relief from the problem often takes time, but the solution to the problem often seems a miracle. Sometimes it is wise to keep a journal that describes the pain through the course of a day. This might help the physician decide if the headaches are caused from the stress of daily responsibilities.

Constant Headaches Respond To Different Treatment

Those people who suffer from constant headaches because of the stress from responsibilities might have to adjust their lifestyle to relieve the pain. There are also some treatments that might help. Acupuncture has been successful in helping some people with constant headaches.

Sleep can also help relieve the pain from headaches. There are some relaxation techniques that might relieve the pain of headaches. Meditation and yoga have been used by some for relaxation and relief from headaches. Some people can find relief from headaches with painkillers from the local pharmacy or grocery store.

Though relief might be found with relaxation or simple medications, constant headaches could be the sign of a serious condition. A doctor should search for the source of the problem. The headaches could be the sign of a tumor or arthritis. The treatment for these two conditions is very different so it is most important to try to determine the exact cause. Other conditions that cause headaches include insomnia and fibromyalgia.

Some conditions that cause headaches are more difficult to diagnose, but each person should continue to search for the cause of their problem.

If there is one thing I know a lot about it is headache cures.

My brother fought with mind numbing headaches for close to ten years before the doctors figured out what was going on with him. In the end it turned out to be his sinuses, and he had a rare condition that needed surgery to repair.

Before we knew what was going on, nevertheless, he had to do whatever he could to get rid of the pain in his head. I saw just about everything he tried. Some things worked, but many of them only worked for a little while and then he’d be back to square one.

His headache cures started out simple enough. He would try the usual pain relievers you would find on the shelves at the pharmacy. They worked for a while, but then would stop working and he’d have to take more to get some relief. He then had to try stronger brands, and even went to his doctor about prescription headache cures that he could try. They too worked for a little while and then would no longer be effective. You can imagine how frustrating that was for him.

He went into the hospital for a barrage of tests when all of his headache cures seemed to fail. They tested for cancers and tumors, and they did every other test they could think of. Nothing came up, and his doctors were forever perplexed. They gave him some headache cures that were only given to patients in extreme pain, but those again only worked for a short while. He tried every home remedy he could find and admitted that there were moments when he felt like he couldn’t take it any more.

In the end the ultimate headache cures did not work, but surgery did. He was fine for a while, but he will have to have surgery every five years in order to keep the headaches from getting bad again, but he is thankful that he does not have to suffer like he once did.

He is the authority on headache cures though, and quite often people call him for advice. He thinks it’s rather funny at times, but he doesn’t mind helping out. If anyone knows what it is like to not be able to get rid of a headache, it’s him. He is thankful that his headaches were not a brain tumor or something worse, so giving out advice is a minor irritation.

Some Common Migraine Triggers That Bring On An Onset Of Migraine

Migraines are something that affects a lot of people all around the world and they are loosely quite severe that range from being annoying to debilitating and it all depends on how severe is the level of the condition.

Once they attack you, you would generally not be able to attend work and it will even make enjoying time with your family and friends very difficult.

Causes Are As Yet Not Known

Even the medical fraternity has not as yet come up with any real causes as to what causes migraines despite countless studies having been made on the subject. Nevertheless, all is not lost for migraine sufferers as there were many migraine triggers that were discovered and these depend to a large degree on lifestyle as well as condition of the sufferer.

Thus, till the true causes of migraines are discovered, most people will have to make do with learning and recognizing the migraine triggers so that they can handle their headaches a lot better.

The first major migraine trigger is hearing loud noises as well as seeing bright lights and these are sensory inputs that help to set off migraines which are known to affect people such as teenagers that go to nightclubs where there are flashy lights as well as a lot of noise, while others that can be affected include persons in the military, workers on construction sites as too those who enforce traffic who are all subjected to a great deal of light and also sound on a daily basis.

Another one of the many migraine triggers is dietary intake and it has been found that cheese can, along with dairy products such as ice creams and milk, start off a bout of migraine attack in certain people. Even chocolate is a known migraine trigger although there are absolutely no medical grounds why this should happen. Moreover, vices such as alcohol and also cigarette smoke are also known to set off migraine attacks.

Quite incredibly, even a poor posture can act as a migraine trigger and in certain instances, it could even end up causing slight deformity to the person’s spinal column and it could then affect your nervous system as there is more stress on the muscles on the back and shoulders leading to an attack of migraine.

Likewise, if you exert you physically when your body is not in a good condition, it is another known migraine trigger, and though you do need to be in good shape and exercising will no doubt help you achieve better fitness, you must ensures that you exercise gradually and not tire you too much.

Other migraine triggers include imbalances in hormones and also blood, and severe emotional stress.

What Causes An Ice Cream Headache?

So it is 90 degrees outside and you and your friends stop by the local ice cream place to get some ice cream to cool off.

You are all downing your ice cream when suddenly one of your friends shouts out “brain freeze!” and stops eating to clutch his head and wince in pain. He may even writhe and shout a little because an ice cream headache can hurt for a little while.

So what causes an ice cream headache and why do we get an ice cream headache when we are eating something as wonderful as ice cream? Did you even notice that you can get an ice cream headache when you are eating or drinking anything that is cold and you are eating or drinking it too fast?

There is a reason for that and it is a real honest medical reason. So allow me to ruin your ideas about an ice cream headache with the real truth behind what causes an ice cream headache.

You can get an ice cream headache from drinking a cold soda on a warm day, downing a ice cold bottle of water, or from anything cold that goes into your mouth and touches the roof of your mouth. In the roof of your mouth is a series of blood vessels that are interconnected to the blood vessels in your head. A headache is habitually caused when the muscles around the skull unexplainably contract or when the blood vessels around the skull expand and contract more than they are supposed to.

You feel it behind your eyes normally because this is where the primary blood vessels are running that respond to this reaction. Also the muscles around your eye sockets become very sensitive when the muscles around your skull begin to contract. It is kind of like filling the front of your head with water and then pulling back on your hair so that your skin is real tight. You get the picture.

And Now The Truth

An ice cream headache happens because the cold ice cream, or whatever cold item you are having, is hitting the roof of your mouth at a frantic pace and the blood vessels located in the roof of your mouth are trying to compensate for the extreme cold by expanding to keep the brain warm.

This shoots all the way up the front of your skull and can sit right in behind your eyes causing the classic ice cream headache. The cure? Stop eating so much ice cream so fast and just let your system naturally right itself.

Don’t try and warm your system back up by introducing something warm because that could aggravate the problem. You got yourself into this mess now you have to ride it out. Don’t worry it doesn’t take long.

If you do feel an ice cream headache coming do not take that as an invitation to a contest. Stop eating or drinking whatever you are eating or drinking immediately. The reaction of the blood vessels could cause one to burst and then your trip to the ice cream store would end real quick.

If you stop eating and give your system time to adjust itself you should be able to pick up your spoon again in no time and try eating at a human pace this time!
